Jaelynn Ricks

I'm originally from New Orleans, LA (Geaux Pels). I love my city and its culture, and I feel honored to have grown up in a place that fosters artists who can truly change the world. I started dancing at the age of two at Art In Motion Dance Academy LLC, which became my second home. My dance teacher, Mrs. Leslie, has truly shaped me as more than just a dancer, but also as a person. When I was six, I joined Uptown Music Theater, where my love of theater was truly cultivated!​

I'm currently a senior at Syracuse University, pursuing my BFA in Musical Theater. BLEED ORANGE! My love for theater has truly grown here, as I'm finding my voice and developing it, continuing my passion for dance, and being challenged to grow into myself as an actor, gaining confidence in the talent that has been fostered through hard work.

My activism has also shaped me as a person. Being a Black woman from a predominantly Black city, who was a part of a predominantly dance school and theater group. I've gotten so much access to see the world through a lens of culture, compassion, care, and love. It's important to me that I use my voice to advocate for those who can't advocate for themselves. Being in an industry like theater has also expanded my knowledge of different people, cultures, experiences, and backgrounds, and like a sponge, I love to absorb it all. That's part of the beauty of theater and the art at large; there's always something new to learn and someone new to meet.

Outside of the theater, I have so many hobbies! I love spending time with my family, especially my Mom and Dad, who have poured so much into me. I'm into chemistry and formulating beauty products, cleaning products, and soaps.  I'm an avid reader; it's me and my Kindle against the world! I'm also a part-time party princess, which has truly changed me as a person. From Make-A-Wish events to Royal Balls, you learn so much about the world through the lens of kids, and I feel blessed to be able to give them a little bit of real-life magic!
